A Different Perspective

The Flip Side Lesson 1 Activity

Meet George. A boy who is tired of all the rules. Everywhere he turns, someone is telling him what he can and can’t do, and honestly…he’s over it. But before long, George begins to discover something important. God’s commands aren’t meant to keep us from what’s good. They’re meant to lead us toward what’s best. Every “no” from God has a flip side, and when we stop long enough to see it, we realize His way is always the better way.

This activity is the perfect way to kick off the study. Using colorful acrylic paint markers, the boys will create a bold canvas filled with jagged lines and vibrant shapes. At first, the design looks a little chaotic, almost like life when it feels as though rules and challenges are coming at us from every direction. But as each section is filled with color, something beautiful begins to take shape. What once looked scattered and chaotic becomes one complete picture. In the same way, when life feels overwhelming or confusing, we can trust that God sees the whole picture. He isn’t surprised by what comes our way and He’s working all things together for our good. The finished canvas will be a lasting reminder that even when life feels a little
zig-zaggy, God’s got this.
